A walk a day supports a healthy, strong immune system
Our immune system is our body’s natural defense against viruses that wish to infect us. This intricate system of cells, chemicals, tissues, and organs serves as our biological army, continuously on the lookout for and destroying intruders. The stronger our immune system, the greater our defense and the less likely we are to become ill with colds, cases of flu, and stomach viruses.
According to studies, persons who walk at a moderate speed for at least 30 minutes each day had a nearly 50% lower risk of having upper respiratory tract infections. If these people were infected with cold and flu viruses, their symptoms were less severe and lasted less time than those who had sedentary lives.
So how’s that for a perk of walking every day? Who wants a nasty cold or flu anyway?
