10 Great Reasons To Walk Every day

Walking is great for burning calories without you even noticing

It’s natural to associate calorie burning with sweating it out in the gym or pounding the pavements. And, while strenuous exercise like this is excellent for burning calories, it is not the only way to burn off any excess calories we consume. If you want to lose weight or are merely watching your calorie intake, the science behind weight loss or weight control is simple: we must burn off more calories than we ingest.

Our bodies do a wonderful job of using the calories we eat to fuel all of our basic activities, including digestion, breathing, movement, and even mental power (even when we’re asleep, we’re burning calories!). But if we’re serious about burning more calories, we need to move more (and arguably, eat less, but that’s all subjective and depends on our metabolism and energy requirements – we’ll need to eat slightly more if we’re putting more demands on our body by exercising or having a manual job, for example, or an energetic toddler).

And what better way to get extra exercise than to go for a quick walk? The number of calories you burn when walking depends on how fast you walk, how far you walk, and where you walk. Walking uphill, through uneven or rocky terrain, or on a flat surface will burn more calories than walking on a flat surface. Find out how many calories you’re burning on your daily stroll by using a calorie calculator! If you have a smartwatch, it will also tell you how many calories you’re burning, as well as your pace and distance.
