Never leave the house without a basic emergency kit
Every driver should have a basic emergency kit in their vehicle. This includes things like jumper cables in case your vehicle breaks down; extra power banks for all of the technologies we use nowadays (including our telephones); and first aid supplies like bandages and oral hygiene kits to minimize dehydration while trapped. You’ll also need blankets because it can get cold, especially at night when sight is limited.
