10-avanaramaya, Sri Lanka
This stupa is located in Sri Lanka’s sacred city of Anuradhapura. This stupa is very important in the country because it represents Buddhist monks of Theravada and Mahayana, the two oldest surviving branches of Buddhism.
Jetavanaramaya was the third tallest building in the ancient world, 400 feet tall. The stupa was created in the fourth century by King Mahasena, who utilized 93 million baked bricks in its construction. The total campus is 5.6 hectares in size and houses 10,000 Buddhist monks.
