Angkor Wat is the world’s largest religious monument. This popular holy site is located in Cambodia’s Angkor. It covers an area of 401 acres and has a height of 700 feet. Emperor Suryavarman II erected it in the 12th century as a shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Following decades of ruin, the temple was repaired by the Khmer dynasty and re-established as a Buddhist temple. The tops of temples were exquisitely crafted using Khmer architecture. Angkor Wat, unlike other temples, faces west and has numerous sculptural ornamentation.
