Nara, of course, sought to beat Disney World with its own characters and attractions, not with Donald Duck and his pals. The amusement park opened in 1961 and closed its doors in 2006 due to a lack of tourists. There were roller coasters and massive railroads, various gaming devices, and everything else required for a successful adventure park. They were pushing it hard and it was going for a long time – but now no one comes here. This is because it is illegal to enter, and fines have been levied on interested photographers.
