What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘meditation’?
Do you envision a peaceful woodland filled with exotic birds chirping? Do you recall the pitter-patter of raindrops? Or do you envisage Tibetan monks floating in the air in a deep trance? These are the pictures that spring to mind when I think of this practice. Before beginning my meditation journey, I was hesitant. I assumed it was just another way to waste my time. I’ve always considered it a strange trend that everyone wanted to try since it looked cool in Kung Fu movies. I conducted some studies on it because I’m an inquisitive person.
Meditation, according to Psychology Today, is “the practice of focusing one’s attention on a single point of reference.” It can entail concentrating on the breath, physiological sensations, or a word or phrase known as a mantra. In other words, meditation entails shifting attention away from distracting thoughts and into the present moment.” After learning about the technique and putting it to use a few times, I noticed that it had aided me in several significant parts of my life. So here are nine reasons why I meditate and why you should too.
1- Meditation relieves day-to-day stress
Everyone, young and old, experiences stress. Unfortunately, meditation will not help you overcome your difficulties. Rather, it is intended to help you better handle stress. I normally meditate for at least 10 minutes when I wake up in the morning and before I go to bed at night. It can sometimes be beneficial to simply reflect on what transpired during the day.
