Myth No. 6: When you can’t sleep, it’s recommended to remain in bed with your eyes closed
According to sleep experts, staying in bed for 20 minutes when you can’t sleep is one of the worst things you can do since it teaches your brain to identify the bed with sleep deprivation. Chronic sleeplessness may result from doing so.
The bed becomes like the dentist’s chair when you spend time in bed awake, a clinical psychologist and sleep expert named Michael Grandner previously told CNN.
Instead, get up and work on monotonous tasks like folding laundry until you feel asleep. Keep the lights down low, and refrain from checking your laptop or smartphone.
