08- Avoid alcohol at bedtime

Alcohol consumption that is excessive can leave you feeling drained and lethargic and, if done right before bed, can have a negative impact on your ability to sleep. Although drinking alcohol increases the amount of the brain chemical adenosine, which at first may make you feel sleepy, this quickly wears off, causing you to have disrupted sleep.
Additionally, alcohol disrupts REM sleep, the deep sleep your body needs to fully heal and replenish itself. Because alcohol relaxes the airways, it can also make snoring and sleep apnea worse.
As a general guideline, avoid drinking at least four hours before bedtime, but if you’re really having trouble with exhaustion and sleeplessness, reducing your intake may assist to ease symptoms. One study indicated that even one drink can affect the quality of your sleep, so you might want to think about cutting alcohol out completely.
Binge drinking is particularly dangerous since it can cause melatonin levels to drop for up to a week following. Since melatonin is necessary for sleep, it stands to reason that when levels are low, it may be difficult to get adequate rest.
