Avoid controversial topics

You may have heard as a child that it is impolite to discuss money, politics, or religion in mixed companies. Of course, these are not insignificant issues. Yet, if you don’t know where someone else stands on certain subjects, you risk turning a straightforward chat into a minefield.
And that suggestion works especially well when you’re talking to a woman on a first date. Let’s say you’re going to meet a woman for coffee. Coffee dates are intended to be easy affairs in which you learn more about one other and decide whether you’d both like to go on a second date.
But if you start talking about politics or religion right away, you’re introducing too many weighty topics into what is supposed to be a pleasant conversation. Even if she agrees with you on these points, she might not want to date someone who can’t hold such topics in his back pocket for a single chat!
