The role of vitamin D in the body
Vitamin D helps regulate the balance between the minerals calcium and phosphate in the body’s cells. It, therefore, plays an essential role in the health of our teeth and bones, which depend on these minerals to stay strong through the remineralization process.
There is evidence that vitamin D plays an important role in immune system health. Studies have shown that it helps to maintain a strong immune system that protects us from diseases such as type 2 diabetes, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis, which are linked to autoimmune problems.
Vitamin D deficiency is also linked to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as seasonal depression. Symptoms of SAD include loss of interest in things you used to enjoy, irritability, stress, anxiety or depression, lethargy, loss of energy, and difficulty concentrating.
