It wasn’t until later seasons that the writers decided to humanize Leonard’s cold-hearted mother, allowing her to develop more positive traits. Leonard initially dislikes spending time with his mother since Beverly is as self-absorbed and insensitive as Sheldon. While Cooper attempted to be courteous to everyone, Beverly saw everyone around her as slow, dimwitted troglodytes, even her son.
