Shwedagon Pagoda, located in Yangon, Myanmar, is one of the most prominent temples in Asia because it houses eight pieces of Buddha’s hair. The temple was built during the Buddha’s reign, 2600 years ago. Taphussa and Bhalika, the temple’s builders, had the opportunity to meet Lord Buddha immediately after he attained enlightenment in BC 588.

Buddha gave them his eight hairs, which they returned to Yangon and used to construct the first section of the Shwedagon pagoda. The temple was coated in thousands of diamonds and covered in many golden plates. It also has many stupas and statues that mirror the architectural style of Buddha’s time.
