The never-ending Wonderland theme park would have been erected 32 kilometers from Beijing as an unofficial reaction to Disneyworld. It would have been Asia’s largest theme park, and as long as construction continued place, they announced it as such – they just never finished its development. The project was canceled for financial reasons in 1998, and a second attempt to relaunch it was attempted in 2008, but it too failed. Finally, the semi-finished buildings and other attractions were razed in mid-May, but many visitors visited there, and there was even a separate man in the parking lot who guided them around.
