The city of Detroit is already a dreadful reminder of industrial decline, but the Michigan Railway Station adds to it: it is more than a century old, and when it was completed, it was the highest and by far the most elegant railway station in the world. It’s been more than 25 years since the last train left here. What should be done with it has divided opinions. There is no money to renovate it, and many people believe that they should simply clear the area with a bulldozer because it is unsightly.
