Whereas most people have gradations when they feel emotions, people with great sensitivity do not. Whereas most people have a turn knob, their emotional distress slider is only an on/off button. They can be madly in love with someone even though their relationship has been in a rut for months, yet they can also be greatly affected by well-intended constructive criticism. It is a minefield to negotiate this.
