Skipping breakfast
There’s a reason why breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast can cause blood sugar levels to drop, which is very damaging to the brain, especially if it happens often. The brain consumes more energy than any other organ in the body and takes up to 20% of the total glucose available in your system each day.
About 2/3 of the brain’s “energy budget” is used to help neurons send signals to the rest of the body. The remaining 1/3 is used for cell maintenance and care. Regularly depriving your brain of enough food causes a deficit in this energy budget, and you will find that your brain responds less well to stimuli. Unbeknownst to you, your brain cells will also not receive the essential care they need to be healthy, and they will die at an accelerated rate.
