It always seems like when you’re at your happiest, there’s someone there who tries to pull you down. Fortunately, there are some excellent strategies to cope with these doubters. We’ve chosen the four we believe are the most effective.

4 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO RESPOND TO OTHERS' NEGATIVITY

When someone sees you happy, they are often envious because they are miserable themselves. “Misery loves company,” as the saying goes. They may be unhappy in their lives because they realize you have money, success, and material stuff, and they desire these things as well. Let’s be honest: we’ve all been on the wrong end of this dynamic and, hopefully, learned that putting others down a notch or two just because they’re having a better day than you is counterproductive.

The first thing to realize is that they are acting this way because they are envious of you. As a result, you should take this as praise. When they forecast your doom and gloom, just listen to what they have to say patiently. Be empathetic and inquire about their well-being. Giving them some sympathy and sharing some encouraging words will win them over. Remember how amazing it made you feel when someone you were envious of said kind things to you?
