Strasbourg, France is the location. Year: 1518. Event: People partying like they would on New Year’s Eve 481 years later. The people couldn’t stop dancing. Whatever was going on was contagious. Hundreds of people were said to have contracted the dance epidemic over a period of many weeks, with the only “cure” appearing to be death by fatigue.
